What is a medical oxygen generator?

A medical oxygen generator is an on-site oxygen production solution designed to centrally supply the medical gas networks of hospitals, clinics, and healthcare facilities of all sizes. PSA-type generators extract oxygen from ambient air using molecular separation technology. Classified as a Class IIB medical device, the oxygen generator meets the highest requirements in terms of safety, performance, and traceability, in accordance with the European MDR regulation (EU) 2017/745.

Benefits for healthcare facilities

Solutions adapted to each need

Novair oxygen generators are suitable for facilities of all sizes: hospitals, private clinics, mobile structures or medical centers in isolated areas. Our teams offer tailor-made solutions and support distributors and NGOs through consulting, engineering, technical support and training.

NOVAIR medical oxygen generators

A complete range for every need

Whatever the number of oxygen outlets to be supplied, their type (operating theatres, intensive care units, inpatient beds), the available space, and the desired configuration, a NOVAIR solution will meet your needs.

NOVAIR offers complete ranges of generators covering all flow rate levels, from the lowest (10 L/min) to the highest (several tens of m³/h). These performance levels make it possible to meet the needs of both small clinics and hospitals with several thousand beds.

NOVAIR designs installations that adapt to your constraints. Short on space? We can install your oxygen production system on the roof of your facility. Is your technical room small or non-existent? We offer all-in-one generators with a minimal footprint, or integrate the production unit into a plug-and-play container.

Through various ranges capable of achieving the highest levels of oxygen purity, NOVAIR is able to meet the needs and constraints of all types of facilities.

NOVAIR supplies all the components required for oxygen production, from the compressed air supply feeding your generator to the filling of backup cylinders.

FAQ

The oxygen generator is a modern alternative to traditional solutions, allowing you to become completely autonomous in your medical oxygen supply:

  • Elimination of deliveries and logistical constraints
  • Reduction of operating costs
  • Elimination of supply shortage risks
  • Continuous production 24/7
  • Eco-responsible solution

A PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) oxygen generator produces oxygen from ambient air using a gas separation process. The air is first compressed and then filtered before being sent into columns filled with molecular sieves.

These sieves primarily retain nitrogen and other gases present in the air, allowing oxygen to pass through. This alternating process provides a continuous flow of oxygen with a purity generally between 93% and 99.5%, depending on the model.
Oxygen is produced on demand and consumed directly by the facility, ensuring a continuous, autonomous supply.

Yes, NOVAIR solutions are designed to adapt to all types and sizes, from small clinics to hospitals with several thousand beds. Generators with capacities ranging from 10 l/min to several tens of m3/h. This allows for precise sizing according to your actual needs.

Furthermore, the generators are suitable for new or existing facilities, without requiring any modification to the medical gas network.

To meet technical and space constraints, various installation configurations are possible: in a technical room, on a rooftop, in a compact or skid-mounted version, as well as a "plug & play" containerized solution.

Yes, NOVAIR generators are CE-marked medical devices (Class IIb), compliant with the European MDR regulation (EU 2017/745) and, where applicable, with the MDD 93/42/EEC directive within the framework of transitional provisions. They comply with the requirements of the ISO 7396-1 standard and are based on the monographs of the European Pharmacopoeia defining the quality of medical oxygen, notably Oxygen 93 (published in 2010) and Oxygen 98 (monograph 3098 adopted in 2023). They therefore guarantee a high level of safety, traceability, and performance.

In accordance with the requirements of the NF EN ISO 7396-1 standard on medical gas distribution systems, "any supply system (for oxygen) must include at least three independent sources of supply". In the event of a generator malfunction, the secondary source substitutes the generator to ensure the facility's oxygen supply. This secondary source may consist of a second generator, cylinder oxygen, or cryogenic oxygen. If the second source fails in turn, the third source (ultimate backup) takes over. The third source usually consists of oxygen cylinders. In countries where ISO 7396-1 does not apply, it is nevertheless recommended to implement several independent supply sources to guarantee continuity of the oxygen supply.
