Results of the LCA study of the NOVAIR oxygen generator: proven eco-friendly benefits
published on 08/18/2025
NOVAIR shares the results of an independent Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study conducted in 2024 by Primum (Grant Thornton Group) and reviewed by Pôle Eco Conception. The main objective of this study was to compare, in numerical terms, the environmental impact of the solutions offered by NOVAIR with conventional solutions (deliveries in cylinders or in bulk liquid form). This study highlighted the environmental benefits of producing medical oxygen directly on site, replacing cylinders delivered under high pressure or in bulk in liquid form.
Calculation hypothesis:
Annual production of a Premium 130 oxygen generator: 92 tons of O2.
Average distance between the hospital and the gas production plant:130 km, which corresponds to the average distance between a healthcare facility and a cryogenic distillation plant in France.

Key results:
A hospital with approximately 130 beds that replaces its supply of high-pressure oxygen cylinders with on-site production using a Premium 130 generator would achieve:
8 tons less COâ‚‚ emitted each year, equivalent to:
- The equivalent of a round-the-world trip by car
- or 4.5 round trips between Paris and New York by plane
Nearly 2,000 m³ of water saved each year, equivalent to:
- the annual consumption of 9 French households
- or 3/4 of an Olympic swimming pool
In this scenario, switching to on-site oxygen production reduces the carbon footprint by 40% and water consumption by 85%.
This study reinforces NOVAIR’s position as a committed player in the ecological transition in the healthcare sector. By choosing on-site oxygen production, hospitals combine performance, autonomy, and environmental responsibility.
